An Croí Wisdom Institute offers a comprehensive professional certification programme in Spiritual Guidance (Direction) and Soul-Centred Practice. This programme is a re-visioning of the Spiritual Guidance training that has been running successfully at An Croí for more than a decade and responds to today’s spiritual landscape.

Programme Aim

The programme aims to provide the psycho-spiritual training in theory and practice necessary for soul accompaniment and spiritual guidance. It focuses on soul orientated processes, spiritual practices and perspectives. It draws on ancient wisdom from the Christian tradition of spiritual direction and insights from psycho-spiritual disciplines. It offers an   inclusive approach that involves an ecumenical perspective based on perennial spiritual wisdom. It aims to prepare participants to become spiritual guides or directors and or to integrate soul work and spiritual perspectives into their existing professional practice.

Programme Content

While developing skills for soul accompaniment the programme also explores the relationship between spirituality and psychology, psyche and soul, spiritual direction and counselling, Spirit and spirit. Other   areas explored include maps of spiritual unfolding, psycho-spiritual issues and development, spiritual guidance approaches and traditions, spiritual and soul practices.

  6. Spiritual Practitioner in Practice: professional & ethical practice.
  7. Transformative learning, integrative practices and soul work.

Creative and Contemplative Approach to Soul Accompaniment

Learner Profile

The programme is geared towards those who wish to train in spiritual accompaniment as a spiritual guides(director). It is also suitable for caring professionals, including counsellors, coaches, psychotherapists and supervisors who wish to integrate spiritual practices and perspectives into their professional practice with competency and ethical awareness. Suitable candidates will normally have some foundation in spirituality, counselling or a cognate area.

Programme Structure

The programme commitment involves monthly training sessions from September to June  (Fridays 4-8pm & Sat. 10am-5pm), participation in An Croí Summer School, a four day intensive training component and a further four integrative training days Sept – December.

The programme is delivered in modular format with, on-going skills training, practice sessions and integration exercises. Successful participants will be  eligible for the award of Professional Diploma in Spiritual Guidance(Direction) and Soul-Centred Practice, recognised by the All Ireland Spiritual Guidance Association.

Additional Requirements

Further requirements for those wishing to complete the Professional   Diploma in Spiritual Guidance award include three self-schedule retreat days, commitment to the required number of sessions of personal spiritual guidance and of guiding others under supervision.


Assessment on the programme is based on the completion of assignments in a variety of formats and presented as a Professional Learning Portfolio toward completion of the training programme. Assessment also includes a discernment interview and skills assessment. It is also possible to audit the programme.
